On long distance moves, to declare a specific value for your goods, and/or at your request subject to an inventory service charge, full packing services will include a descriptive inventory of every box, container, fixture, item, article, tote, furniture or any household good or good intended for household use will be labeled with the condition at pick-up and delivery, amongst many other things required for a smooth move. Full packing services in which we pack everything, excluding hazardous or high valued items such as jewelry, money, or anything the mover, packer, or carrier chose to decline to pack, move, ship, or store. Partial packing services are for shippers and/ or customers wanting a few items or a few rooms packed.

Move Preparation

The best way to prep for any move is by narrowing down what you’d like to move and what’d you like to donate, sell, or simply discard. Pack and remove all expensive items such as jewelry, money, guns/ammunition, or any medicines that you’ll want/need to keep with you. Also prepare a personal bag to keep in your car for emergencies. Last but not least, if you didn’t do this first, give us a call!

We know what boxes to use, how many boxes to use, and we’ll do our best to be prepared in the event that you need some extra packing and packing materials! Make sure the mover you select has been assigned a USDOT number, is registered with FMCSA to engage in interstate transportation of household goods and has the proper level of insurance for your out of state or long-distance move.


You can determine if a mover is registered with FMCSA by visiting www.protectyourmove.gov,
or calling FMCSA at 800-832-5660 for licensing and insurance information.

Before you move, find out what your potential mover’s process is for any disputes or claims pertaining to your shipment. It is best to know how, when, and who will be picking up, packing, loading, unloading, carrying, unpacking, delivering, or performing any moving or line haul services for you and your goods. It is the shipper’s responsibility to adequately acquire insurance for their goods.

A shipper may acquire moving insurance through a 3rd party vendor such as, but not limited to, movinginsurance.com. Make sure you (the shipper), has reliable contact and know how to contact whoever will be transporting your shipment. Check to see if your mover is registered for interstate moves with the FMCSA. Another way to ensure you are making the right choice is read prior customer reviews, ask friends or relatives relating to who they’d recommend.

Moving day is when the shipper or authorized agent of the shipper is ready to answer any questions the mover may have pertaining to any part of the shipment. Make sure all information on your binding or non-binding estimate, any order for services, bill of lading, and attached inventory are the same and there are no changes to be made before any part of the shipment is loaded.

Shipper and mover may have to negotiate a new binding estimate, bill of lading, order for service, and/ or cancel the shipment or move. Any deposits will be absorbed to account for any liquidated damages, supply of materials, equipment, or any line haul or accessorial charges. Always keep a copy of any documents signed by you and the mover.

During delivery, be alert and ready to answer any questions the carrier and/or the mover may have. Make sure to pay the driver or carrier before any goods are unloaded. The amount to pay is stated on the binding estimate and bill of lading, unless impracticable operations are apparent and evident; then shipper will be required to pay no more than an additional 15% due to any additional services performed to complete any part of the shipment and/or delivery.

Make sure to note on the inventory list signed by both you and the mover, in which any remarks were made pertaining to the condition of each item are listed.

Ernest and his partner were amazing piano movers. This ended up being a last-minute piano moving job after another mover realized the distance was too far and decided to referred them to me.

Unfortunately there was heavy rain and traffic that day, so they arrived a bit late. As soon as they arrived, they sincerely apologized to both me and the family who generously gave us the piano.

What impressed me most was their attitude and professionalism. They could have easily declined a job that wasn’t originally scheduled for them, but instead they showed up, stayed positive, and immediately got to work. They carefully wrapped and protected the piano and handled everything very professionally and efficiently.

Both young men were extremely polite and respectful throughout the entire process. Their pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the last-minute request and the quality of their work.
